The Master of Science in Environmental Science (MSES) is housed in the Department of Geography and the Environment. The Department is uniquely interdisciplinary with emphasis among the social, natural and physical sciences. Additionally, you have the opportunity to take courses in other programs across the College as part of your degree electives.
The MSES uniquely leverages extensive geospatial science capabilities of the Department of Geography & the Environment. You will gain highly marketable skills in relevant technologies such as Geographic Information Systems, Global Positioning Systems, computer-aided cartographic techniques and satellite imagery. You will use technology to solve problems and enhance your ability to make cogent, informed decisions.
Villanova’s geographic location in the Mid-Atlantic coastal plain is advantageous in offering a variety of research environments, including estuarine, coastal zone, forest and upland, urban and suburban and agricultural environments. You will work side-by-side with our exceptional faculty and staff on a wide range of research projects.
Course credits are very competitively priced, at rates comparable to public institutions. We also award graduate assistantships, which fully fund your studies with a stipend. In Geography and the Environment, students with graduate assistantships are provided a combination of research and teaching experiences. As a graduate of the MSES program, you will successfully compete in and advance your career in the scientific, academic, governmental or commercial field of your choosing. As a student and alumnus, you will have access to the University's award-winning Career Center.
You can study full time, or part time, pursuing both thesis research or a non-thesis track, depending on your educational and professional goals.

Villanova is located on the historic Main Line, in a beautiful western suburb of Philadelphia. Philadelphia offers a wide variety of museums, libraries, concerts and professional sport teams. The campus is only thirty minutes from downtown Philadelphia. It is minutes away from all major highways and routes to and from major metropolitan areas such as: New York City, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Villanova provides ample parking and mass transit stops right on campus, and students can travel easily to and from the campus by car, bus or train.
