The Counseling Program recently recognized The Mitchell Program at St. Gabriel’s Hall with the “Excellence in Counselor Training and Supervision Award.” The award was delivered to Lisa Gaub, the Mitchell Program’s Clinical Supervisor and Anna Gerard, St. Gabriel Hall’s Clinical Director.
This award is meant to recognize one site each year that works with graduate counseling students. Specifically, it is given to highlight “superior efforts to provide quality supervision to graduate counseling students during their internship experiences and to promote excellence in the field of counseling.” The Mitchell Program is one arm of the St. Gabriel’s System. It provides intensive, 120-day residential treatment for adolescent males ages 14-18. The Mitchell Program utilizes an alternative school framework, clinical treatment, physical activity, and work-related accountability in order to promote academic achievement, vocational responsibility, and self-efficacy. These efforts enable youth to transition out of the juvenile justice system and build resiliency skills necessary for positive development and successful citizenship.
The Department wanted to thank The Mitchell Program and St. Gabriel’s Hall for the work that they do for the youth of Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. In addition, they wanted to take this opportunity to explicitly thank them for the efforts they continue to make toward building loving, caring, and powerful relationships with our students in order to enhance their professional development.
