Writers need readers, and the creative writing workshop offers just that: supportive and critique-oriented readers.

A core component of the Minor in Creative Writing is the writing workshop.  In workshop courses, students produce original creative pieces, present them to an audience of published faculty and peers, and revise their work to produce polished stories, poetry, and creative non-fiction. For those who wish to grow as writers and perhaps publish their work, this is an invaluable opportunity for audience feedback on works in progress. Workshop courses are offered every semester and are taught by published novelists and poets. Below is a list of the core writing workshop courses.

  • ENG 2003: Introduction to Creative Writing
  • ENG 2005: Writing the Short Story
  • ENG 2006: The Writing of Poetry
  • ENG 2009: The Writing of the Novella
  • ENG 4690-H01: The Literary Festival Workshop
