This conference will explore how Dante’s Commedia can inform philosophical reflection, broadly construed. By “philosophy,” we intend and envision a capacious and generous spirit of investigation, one which takes Dante’s poem as a foundation for inquiry into reality. The conference will examine how theological, literary, poetic, and other cross-disciplinary approaches might contribute in significant ways to a seeking of wisdom in and through The Divine Comedy.
Philosophy and the Divine Comedy will bring together scholars who can speak across disciplines to discuss how The Divine Comedy enriches our reading of perennial philosophical themes, and contributes to the task of philosophy in the present day.
Philosophy and the Divine Comedy: An International Conference is sponsored by a grant from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Villanova University. It is also co-sponsored by the Office for Mission and Ministry, and the Augustine and Culture Seminar Program at Villanova University.
