Villanova University’s Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Institute Receives $1 Million Commitment

Institute Directorship named in honor of donors Ellen and Daniel ’61 Hogarty

Villanova University has announced a $1 million commitment in support of the Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Institute from alumnus Daniel Hogarty ’61 VSB and his wife, Ellen. One of Villanova’s interdisciplinary institutes, the ICE Institute drives academic and professional development opportunities that nurture the entrepreneurial mindset throughout the Villanova community.

“My family has been inspired by the ICE Institute’s innovative approach to entrepreneurial education,” said Daniel Hogarty. “This contribution enables us to have a meaningful impact on generations of students.”

The Hogartys’ gift provides dedicated funding for the ICE Institute’s continued growth, from academic programs that ignite creative thinking and problem-solving, to community outreach that connects students with alumni entrepreneurs and local business leaders. The Institute Directorship will be named the Daniel J. Hogarty, Jr. ’61 Director in honor of their philanthropic investment.

“The Hogartys have been champions for the ICE Institute from its inception, and I am honored to hold a position that reflects their enduring commitment to innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. I look forward to further enhancing our programs and initiatives through their support,” said II Luscri, Executive Director of the ICE Institute.

Each year, the ICE Institute hosts dozens of events and programs, including its signature Pitch Day, which invites students across campus to present their business ideas and entrepreneurial projects to panels of experts. On a daily basis, students visit the Institute’s Idea Accelerator, which provides an open and modern venue for sharing ideas and connecting with peers, faculty, alumni and community members from diverse disciplines. The result: increased entrepreneurial thinking, new business development, improved student organizations and social innovations.

“We are grateful to the Hogartys for their faithful support of the ICE Institute, and we are honored to recognize them in this way,” said Michael J. O’Neill, Senior Vice President for University Advancement. “We made a commitment in this campaign to drive academic innovation, and the ICE Institute is an important partner in achieving that goal.”

Mr. Hogarty is the retired president and CEO of The Troy Savings Bank and The Troy Financial Corp., and currently serves as the president and director of The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation and The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Foundation. He is the 2013 recipient of the Rev. Joseph C. Bartley, OSA Alumni Medallion, which recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers while also demonstrating extraordinary service to their communities and to the Villanova School of Business.
