The Matthew Carr Society

Matthew Carr Society at Villanova

Inaugurated in October 2013, The Matthew Carr Society recognizes Villanova University’s most generous benefactors who have made lifetime gifts totaling $1 million or more. We are privileged to have not just a few, but dozens of alumni, parents, and friends who qualify for this honor through their extraordinary philanthropy.

The Carr Society is named after the Rev. Matthew Carr, OSA, who established the first Augustinian community in Philadelphia. Father Carr was also a bold and successful fundraiser; his dream was to build a church, and within a year he had gathered enough financial support – including gifts from George Washington and Commodore Barry – to finance the project.

Like Father Carr, the members of this society share the same vision, spirit, and strength in laying the bedrock for a greater Villanova.
