The Unitas Endowed Fund

In 2008, a group of Villanova parent volunteers saw a growing need for emergency financial support for students. They heard stories of students who lost a parent, had a family member battling an illness and other unforeseen circumstances that left parents unable to meet the financial requirements of a college education.

As Villanovans, we deeply value Unitas, or unity, and the supportive community the University fosters. That’s why this group of dedicated parents decided to take action to help families alleviate the stress related to meeting educational costs during a difficult time. The result was the Unitas Endowed Fund (formerly named the Graduates’ Family Endowed Fund). Since its inception, parents have contributed more than $570,000 to the Unitas Endowed Fund which has helped 30 students successfully complete their undergraduate degrees.

The Impact of Parent Giving

Parents give to all different areas of campus. Below are a few spotlight stories where donors explain why they give:

  • After learning more about the Social Justice Documentary program, Elaine and David Nord P '10, '12, '15 decided to make a gift to support operating and equipment needs for the course.
  • Margaret Shull '16 and her mother, Lynn, made a gift to honor Margaret's late father, Lon. A gift to the Villanova Voices was the perfect tribute to Lon and Margaret's shared passion for music.
  • After their son, David Pollman '16 CLAS, participated in Villanova's Summer Business Institute, Faith Ferguson and Ron Boire decided to create an endowed fund for student scholarships so that other could have the same enriching experience that their son did.
  • As an entrepreneur, Abe Badani and his wife Zarina (P '09, '12) saw the value of the Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Institute and made a major gift to establish an endowed fund to support its growth.
