Simit '00 and Ankita Shah

Simit ’00 CLAS and Ankita Shah

Simit Shah graduated from Villanova University with a BS in Chemistry in 2000. In 2008 he moved to Detroit where he met his wife Ankita and obtained his MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Simit currently works in finance for the Apollo Education Group in Phoenix where he is also involved with the local alumni chapter.

There are many reasons why Villanova has remained so important to Simit, but the impact that his time there had on him was not apparent at first. Simit grew up in Philadelphia, the son of hard working immigrants from India. A Villanova scholarship allowed him to attend the school. Reflecting on why he remains connected to the school today he notes, “I am humbled and proud to be an alumnus and I continue to have strong relationships with my closest friends from college. I am passionate about the community involvement and the great professors and experiences Villanova offers. It took me many years to realize the importance of the guidance I received from Brenda Stover, Executive Director of the Charlotte & James O’Donnell Center for Professional Development and I am very grateful.”

Simit is also very grateful to his parents, Dinesh and Latika Shah, for all they did to support him. As immigrants from another country it was not always easy navigating through the college admissions process nor parenting a college student. He has honored them by establishing the Dinesh and Latika Endowed Scholarship Fund. Simit wanted to help in any way he could to make sure students were able to attend Villanova and achieve their dreams.  “I can’t wait to read about the wonderful things all these students will achieve in their respective lifetimes. I really hope they keep a degree of humility yet stay fearless in their endeavors.”

Giving back has always been important to Simit as he shared, “Helping others is truly a duty, remembering where I came from and who helped me along the way is unforgettable, and the memories and people I met from Villanova are truly priceless.”
