Shawn Jones ’93 VSB has stayed connected to the Villanova community and especially loves coming back to campus whenever possible. Residing with his family in nearby Wynnewood, he mentors Villanova School of Business students, attends men’s basketball games and brings his children to run around at the Higgins Soccer Complex on West campus. This May, Jones will be paying a special visit to campus for his 25th Reunion as co-chair of the Class of 1993’s committee.

The decision to serve on his reunion committee was simple for Shawn. “Villanova gave me a great four years. I really feel that I got the most out of my time there. It set me up for a great career and I made lifelong friends along the way.” Shawn reflected on his time at Villanova spent with his fraternity brothers, playing intramurals and writing for the yearbook. “It is just a really special place.”

With a degree in Economics, Jones started his career in finance in New York City. On September 11, 2001, his life changed when his wife Jeannine Damiani-Jones ’94 VSB was killed in the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center. Along with Jeannine’s family and friends, Shawn was searching for a way to honor his wife’s legacy that would capture the purity of her spirit. The Jeannine Damiani-Jones ’94 Endowed Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a female junior or senior business student who demonstrates characteristics Jeannine embodied such as dedication, talent, determination and a strong work ethic. To date, the scholarship has been awarded to five young women, and Shawn keeps in contact with the scholars and enjoys coaching and giving career advice.

Another piece of the Villanova experience that Shawn and his family deeply enjoy are men’s basketball games. Shawn, his wife Maggie, and their five children are what he described as “fanatics”. Each year he makes a special trip to the bookstore to stock up on new Villanova gear for Christmas. “Basketball games are a real connector. We rally around it and it’s a great way to stay in touch and meet new Villanovans.”

As a volunteer for the University, Shawn likes to act as an ambassador and encourages others to get involved. “I like to network, so if I can encourage others to volunteer or make a gift to the University, I feel that I’m doing my small part to help.”

Being a reunion committee co-chair for his class, Shawn looks forward to the challenge of achieving dollar and donor goals for his class. Since Shawn visits campus often, he knows the impact alumni giving has on the University. “The transformation on campus is spectacular to witness first-hand. Not just the new facilities, but all the new rankings and academic achievements that keep coming really make the alumni proud.”

Villanova Reunion 2018 will be held May 31-June 3, 2018. Graduates of class years ending in 3 or 8 celebrate milestone Reunions with special activities, but all alumni in all class years are welcome to attend! Learn more.
