Digital Media Alternatives
Images with text embedded in the image
This should be avoided for the following reasons:
- The text is flattened and cannot be read through a text reader.
- Even if the visitor does not use a screen reader, the text might not be readable from a lack of contrast between the text and the image background. This would be a barrier for individuals who are have color contrast or low vision disabilities.
If an infographic is necessary:
- Text alternative should be available within context to the graphic such as adding a caption to the image.
Exception to this rule is the use of a logo.
For more information, see caption recommendations from the WebAIM organization.
