Demonstrating the close captioning controls on youtube videos

Images with text embedded in the image

This should be avoided for the following reasons:

  • The text is flattened and cannot be read through a text reader.
  • Even if the visitor does not use a screen reader, the text might not be readable from a lack of contrast between the text and the image background. This would be a barrier for individuals who are have color contrast or low vision disabilities.

If an infographic is necessary:

  • Text alternative should be available within context to the graphic such as adding a caption to the image.

Exception to this rule is the use of a logo.
