Punctuated by the buzz of the clippers and the snip of the shears, the familiar sounds of barbershop chatter and camaraderie have echoed from the first floor of Dougherty Hall for 65 years now.

Vince Donia, who’s been the campus barber since 2000, has kept a steady stream of satisfied customers coming back to the shop’s old-school vinyl chairs, averaging about 20 haircuts a day for the past two decades.

Customers have to don a mask in addition to a cape these days, but thanks to Community First protocols, they can still count on the University Barber Shop to keep them looking fresh.

Before the University Barber Shop found its permanent home in 1955 in Dougherty Hall, Room 115, patrons looking for good cuts and conversation had to take a seat in the Barracks.
