The Graduate Programs Office offers students the opportunity to enhance their professional development skills, increase their network, and develop a strategy for leveraging their MBA for career growth and mobility. As students have different motivations for completing a MBA, there are a variety of resource options based on individual student goals.
Students have the opportunity to schedule coaching sessions. These sessions can be held in person, on the phone, or via Skype at Villanova or at Convene CityView. Students may schedule appointments via Handshake.
MBA Mentoring Program
Students are encouraged to participate in a one-year mentoring program with alumni and corporate partners. This program is facilitated by Chronus, a mentoring platform, that provides mentoring recommendations based on career interests and backgrounds with MatchIQ technology. During this program, students will engage in events that facilitate in-person connectivity such as a Villanova Men’s Basketball game and a concluding reception.
Webinars & Events
Students can participate in any number of programs and webinars. Each year, we offer sessions in general career topics such as Business Communications, Managing your Career & MBA, and Brand Your LinkedIn profile as well as more targeted focus areas such as Demystifying Consulting. There are also external speakers that are brought to campus to provide their advice and guidance; for example, Jaymin Patel, speaker, coach and author of eight books, visited campus in August 2017 to instruct our students on how to "Network like a Rockstar.”
Career Development Tools
Students have access to a number of web-based tools which can help clarify career goals, identify opportunities, plan a career strategy and practice interview skills. These include: Handshake, Vault, Philadelphia Business Journal, CareerShift, GoingGlobal and InterviewStream. Beyond B-School is another resource that allows students to hear from industry experts and search the library for specific career related content areas.
Each year, Villanova MBA students compete in a number of case competitions, in both regional and international settings. These competitions enable VSB MBA students to interact with leading financial executives, network with potential employers, gain insight into the inner workings of corporate finance, test critical thinking and analytical skills, and enhance their business acumen.
Sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), this competition is uniquely designed to give students from the tri-state’s leading MBA programs invaluable insight into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, corporate financial advisory, and private equity.
Aspen Institute Business & Society Case Competition
VSB is one of 25 schools to compete with other MBA institutions from around the world by analyzing an innovative, new business case study that aims to inspire future business leaders to innovate at the intersection of corporate profitability and environmental, social, and ethical issues.
