March 2023

NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH

 
 Understand the nutritional needs of your body and create healthful eating patterns with the foods you love. 

Monday, March 20: 6 p.m.

Changing Minds: Stories Over Stigma
As a child, Kristen experienced significant trauma. When she reached her preteen years, Kristen didn't know how to manage what she was feeling and turned to alcohol, drugs, and self harm to mask the pain that she so desperately wanted to keep locked away. After going to treatment, where she learned how to replace her negative coping skills with positive ones, she worked hard to incorporate those habits into her life. Join Kristen and hear her story of resilience and recovery. ACS approved.

Conscious Cuisine Dinner
Join POWER and Registered Dietitian Jess Pellicciotta for dinner and conversation surrounding mindful eating. Participate in mindfulness activities, learn about current dietary trends and how to be more mindful with your meals, and take home your own mindful eating journal.. ACS approved.

Strength Training 101
Are you interested in strength training but feel intimidated or confused as to where to begin? Join this intro class to learn the basics of strength training and how to create a safe and effective program. ACS approved.

Thursday, March 30: 4 p.m.

Build a Better Salad Program
 Join this interactive workshop to learn how to build a better salad that will leave you feeling full and satisfied as well as new salad combinations that are balanced, nutritious and delicious! Students will get to make and take their own salads! ACS approved.

Cooking Demo
Join this hands on class to learn basic tips on how to prepare healthy, quick, and delicious snacks and meals. Students will learn proper knife skills, food safety tips, and simple recipes that can be easily made either in a residence hall or apartment. ACS approved.

"The Bystander Moment"
Film Screening and Discussion
Join POWER for a viewing and discussion of "The Bystander Moment - Transforming Rape Culture at its Roots." The film explores the role of the bystander in situations of sexual harassment/assault, and how gender norms have fed a culture of silence in the face of sexual harassment and abuse and other forms of gender violence. ACS Approved.
