Financing Your Education

Villanova’s graduate school tuition is very competitive, and there are a number of ways to finance your master's degree in Human Resource Development. All of the classes, both on-campus and online, are held in the evenings, permitting you to work while in the program whether you are studying part-time or full-time. Your employer may offer tuition assistance benefits!
 

Graduate Assistantships

The program offers a number of Graduate Assistantships, which cover tuition plus a stipend. To be considered for these funding sources, you should apply for admission in the fall semester. Applicants for spring admission cannot be considered for these awards.

These assistantships require 20 hours of work for the HRD program per week. Graduate assistants are ambassadors of the HRD program and work with the office on research projects, program initiatives and events.

If you are interested in applying for a graduate assistantship, you must submit your application by March 1. Candidates will be contacted for interviews.

To apply to be a graduate assistant please submit the Application for Graduate Assistantship/Fellowship. Submit this application to: gradhrdoffice@villanova.edu by March 1. 

Other Campus Funding

There are also assistantships offered by other Villanova departments and offices. If you apply for other University assistantships, you will still be considered for internal department funding.

HRD Academic Calendar

The HRD Program academic calendar uses two 8-week terms per semester: Fall I, Fall II, Spring I, Spring II, Summer I and Summer II. The HRD Program academic calendar does not follow the same start and end dates as the regular university calendar. HR Recertification Credits

Our classes are approved for both HRCI and SHRM recertification credits: a 3-credit class is worth 30 recertification credits, and a 1-credit class is worth 10 credits.

Course Scheduling

Our classes are scheduled in the evenings and are convenient for those working full time. On campus classes are scheduled from either 5:20 - 7:20 p.m. or 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. ET. Online courses are all scheduled from 8:30-10:30 p.m. ET. All 3-credit on campus and online classes are scheduled once per week, Monday-Thursday, and run for 8 weeks at a time; 1.5-credit electives run for 4 weeks. Search the Master Schedule.

How to Apply to Take Classes as a Non-matriculated Student

If you are interested in applying to take HRD classes at Villanova, simply email the Office of Graduate Studies, to request an application to apply as a non-matriculated student. You must have successfully completed your bachelor's degree to enroll in these master's-level classes. You can choose to apply for the master's degree or a certificate program at a later time.

As a non-matriculated student, students can take up to 12 credits in graduate programs. HR professionals who are looking to stay up to date on current HR trends may choose to take classes in this status, as well as earning recertification credits for their certificate through HRCI or SHRM. Students can also choose to apply into one of our programs after taking classes as a non-matriculated student.

To apply, students must submit the non-matriculated application as well as official transcripts from the undergraduate institution.

Villanova University SHRM Chapter

The Villanova University SHRM Chapter is an active student group founded in 1985. This student organization is an affiliate of the Society of Human Resource Management.  

VUSHRM is run by a Board of HRD graduate students who organize and coordinate interactive programming for students in the Human Resource Development graduate program and all VUSHRM members. Learn more about the Villanova SHRM Chapter.
