Graduate Student Emergency Fund

The Graduate Student Emergency Fund is in place to assist graduate students who are experiencing an unexpected, acute, emergency financial hardship. This fund is available to all currently enrolled graduate and professional students, including doctoral and law students.

The Graduate Student Emergency Fund is designed to provide financial relief for sudden or temporary costs such as:

  • Transportation or Travel
  • Need for temporary housing due to unseen circumstances
  • Loss of personal items due to fire, flood, or theft
  • Other personal or family emergencies

These funds are not designed for routine or reoccurring expenses or as a supplement to a student’s funding sources. We recognize the difficulties that some may be facing, but the Graduate Student Emergency Fund cannot provide funding for expenses such as rent, utilities, or credit card debt.

Typically, awards are between $200 and $500, but higher amounts will be considered depending on individual situations. In proceeding with the application, you verify that the information you provide is true and accurate. The Graduate Student Emergency fund is evidence based and receipts or other evidence are required for all expenses relating to the hardship. All applications are reviewed by the Graduate Student Emergency Fund University Committee and reviews may take seven business days to complete.

Domestic students who are experiencing more long-term or sustained financial need, should consult with the Office of Financial Assistance to review additional financing options. Any questions about the Graduate Student Emergency Fund should be directed to gradcenter@villanova.edu.
