Newspaper Readership Program

The Office of Academic Affairs funds the Collegiate Readership Program, which has been available to Villanova students since 2000. The program makes available to our students the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer and USA TODAY throughout campus including in many of our residence halls. The readership program provides relevant and timely information helping students to follow important issues and trends, foster dialogue and debate, encourage interest in national and global matters, and develop critical thinking skills.

Students and faculty are encouraged to visit USA Today's academic web site, www.usatodaycollege.com, which provides case studies, articles, discussion questions and polls which can be integrated into both academic and student life. "Voices" is a new initiative USA TODAY developed to inspire action on campus and have students' voices heard. A toolkit is provided which gives students everything they need to host a debate, forum or discussion on campus on important issues of today. USA TODAY offers all Villanova faculty a free subscription (delivered to a participating location on campus) if added to their syllabus and used as reading material within their course instruction. USA TODAY also offers programming opportunities including a partnership with the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and the Peter Jennings Project for Journalists and the Constitution.

The New York Times also provides a multitude of education resources to support usage in the college classroom.  Visit the Times’ website www.nytimes.com/edu for more information.  Faculty may receive a complimentary Monday-Friday subscription if The New York Times is added to their syllabus and used as reading material within their course instruction. Other newspaper readership programs on campus are offered by the College of Arts and Sciences, which offers The Financial Times, and the School of Business, which offers The Wall Street Journal. Please visit the College/School websites for more information about these programs.
