Academic Support Services

Academic Resource Center

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides an efficient and comfortable learning environment for ALL student-athletes at Villanova University. The ARC serves as an after hours extension of the Office of Academic Support, where student athletes have the opportunity to utilize the fully equipped computer lab, meet with tutors and mentors or utilize individual study rooms.

Career Development

The Office of Academic Support for Athletics works in conjunction with the Career Center to provide career development support for student-athletes. Resume and Major workshops are conducted each fall and spring semester.

Freshman Mentoring Program

The Freshman Mentoring Program serves as an additional method of academic advisement to ALL freshman student-athletes. The overall objective of the program is to aid student-athlete development of organizational and time management skills essential for the transition from high school to college.

NCAA & Institutional Eligibility

At all times during the Fall and Spring semesters, a student-athlete must be registered for a least 12 credit hours. A student-athlete must pass at least 6 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester to be eligible for competition the following semester.

In order to compete in varsity level competition, a student-athlete must maintain a 2.00 grade point average.

A student-athlete must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours during the academic year. 18 credit hours must be completed during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Scheduling

All student-athletes have a primary academic adviser in their home college with whom they are required to meet with prior to each registration process. The Office of Academic Support for Athletics serves as the secondary advisor to student-athletes during the scheduling process by assisting in scheduling required courses that do not conflict with practice times and competition. The OAS also serves as a liaison between the Athletic Department, the Office of the Registrar, the Dean’s Offices and the Department Chairpersons during the scheduling process.

Student Athlete of the Month

The Office of Academic Support selects a student athlete of the month during the fall and spring semesters. Based on nominations from Coaches, the OAS will select a student based on excellence on and off the field. The Student Athlete of the Month will have his/her name engraved on a plaque that hangs prominently in the OAS, as well as a feature story in the monthly Cat Call newsletter.

Tutorial Assistance Program

The Tutorial Assistance Program was created in order to provide supplemental instruction to classroom lectures for student-athletes at Villanova University. All student-athletes have the convenience of requesting FREE tutorial support. In order to request a tutor, please fill out a Tutor Request Form online or in the Office of Academic Support in Jake Nevin.
