Banner is the name of a fully integrated software solution developed by Sungard Higher Education (Sungard HE) .It is used by the University to manage it's business operations. The Banner system is organized in different modules that manage student services,faculty advising services, accounts receivable, financial aid, alumni/advancement, finance budgeting, human resources. In addition there are a number of modules/forms (such as Finance, Parking, Career Services, Judicial Affairs Campus Ministry, Student Professional Development )built by VU Unit -EWS that provide more specific functionality to the existing modules. In addition, Banner includes self-service modules organized under Novasis that provide flexible and convenient personal and business functionality to students, faculty and staff.
The Banner Web Client is used for day-to-day business processing. The primary users are Administrative staff, student employees, staff in the academic department, and staff/faculty in the Dean's office.
To obtain your Banner account, your supervisor must open a Help Desk ticket or contact the UIS group. The UIS-EWS administrator will create the requested account and provide the appropriate privileges for your day-to-day use of the system.
If you can't remember your Banner username/password, you may send an email message to firstname.lastname@example.org or call (9)7777. The message should specifically state that you'd like to have your Banner password reset.
The main difference between the Banner and NOVASIS is that the Banner Web based application is for day-to-day business processing and data-entry. It requires more user-end training and security. The primary users of Banner Web based application are the administrative departments (ex. Registrar's Office, Human Resources, Housing, Finance, Bursar's Office, Financial Aid, etc.). NOVASIS is a self service product for students and employees. It is accessible to all Villanova University employees, students, and alumni. The primary users of NOVASIS are Faculty and Students.
Banner is maintained and troubleshooted from UIS-EWS group. This group provides maintenance, customizing/developing, troubleshooting and security.
This group is composed of 2 subgroups. EWS (Enterprise Wide Systems) and DBA /Imaging . While EWS adjusts, changes, troubleshoots and maintains Banner modules, develop new ones or customize the existing ones as requested, DBA/Imaging provide DBA and Security Services.
To access the Banner Web Client, your PC must have the following:
- Jinitiator 18.104.22.168
- Internet Explorer web browser versions (for Windows) 6.0 or higher
- Netscape web browser versions (for Windows) 6.2.x or
- recommended desktop settings is 1024 x 764 pixels
All connections to the Banner from outside the university require authentication through the gateway network.

The WEB print functionality allows the user to submit a Banner Job Submission job and receive the output as an email or print it to any printer. The option of receiving the output through email is not set up.
