The Villanova Jazz Band plays a wide variety of jazz ranging from traditional swing to modern funk-rock. Smaller break-out groups form various jazz combos and quartets that perform locally as well as on campus. We rehearse once a week and perform at many events throughout the school year. The Jazz Band is led by Bill Whitaker.
The Jazz Band is often invited to perform at venues in Philadelphia and around the region - a highlight of recent engagements was an invitation to play for Jazz at Lincoln Center. In past years, the group has toured to Niagara Falls, Fort Lauderdale and Myrtle Beach. The Jazz Band hosts an annual jazz festival featuring some of the best collegiate and high school jazz ensembles along the east coast. In 2013, the Villanova Jazz Festival featured Lew Tabackin who hosted a music clinic for contesting ensembles.
The Villanova Jazz Band hosts three major concerts per year on campus.
