LeVel - Leveling the playing field

file

A new student organization at Villanova University, Level is focused on raising able-ism awareness and changing attitudes on ability. Working closely with the Office of Disability Services to help students with disabilities in and out of the classroom, Level works to bridge the gap between the able-bodied and differently-abled community.  Targeting academics, social interaction, mindsets, and physical barriers, Level is working to expand the idea of community on and off campus.

College is expensive, and the extra costs piled upon disabled students are not ones that are offset by any governmental projects or programs.  The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is an unfunded mandate leaving any and all accommodations that must be made to increase accessibility fall to the company or organization to cover. Unfortunately, this often makes higher education out of reach for a high number of disabled students.  Those able to attend, often require expensive tools for help in the classroom and with academic work. In the case of a private university, those extra costs are pinned to the individual student.

"Leveling Las Vegas” - The American Dream
April 22, 2013
7 p.m. – 11 p.m.
The Pavilion

Casino Night! Poker, Roulette, Texas Hold ‘em, Black Jack, and more.
Live music, exciting atmosphere, and continuous prizes.

“Leveling Las Vegas” is an event that everyone can take part in, allowing students who are differently-abled to enjoy an exciting evening alongside their friends and peers. The evening will be a chance to raise awareness through an activity that is entertaining for all. Playing alongside those who are differently-abled creates the opportunity for interaction with all types of individuals. The themes of inclusion and connection that Level is trying to encourage and ignite on and off campus will have an opportunity to flourish at the event.

Casino Night is a chance for funds to be raised that will be directed towards new projects and innovations in Level. Future aspirations include hopes to have a scholarship fund to enable more students of differing abilities to have access to higher education, inclusive activities for members of Level and Students registered with the Office of Disability Services such as trips or service projects, and to give Level the opportunity to expand by reaching more people.

We hope that you will support our mission to LeVel the Playing Field, join our team, and consider making a donation that will allow our group to grow and facilitate change on and off campus!

Please join us as we host a night of fun filled games, open to everyone regardless of ability.
