Students who apply to the Learning Communities are selected primarily on a random basis with attention given also to date of deposit, date of learning community application, and then a balance of double and tripled rooms in the community. You must pay your deposit to hold your place in the class before being able to apply.
We also seek students from all colleges and from a variety of geographical locations (for the residential programs). Most participants are notified of their selection the last week of July or early August.
In addition to themed learning communities, some first year students may find themselves placed in a learning community based on their housing and first year seminar (ACS) assignment. These communities are typically in some of the smaller first year residence halls on main campus.
