Learning . . . Living . . . Exploring
Do you get involved with friends and in activities easily? Do you wish you were more able to get involved and have a voice? Are you interested in learning strong leadership practices? The Leadership Learning Community is for both experienced and new leaders who want to learn and practice skills that will help make them more effective in whatever they do. Whether you have been a leader in high school or you want to expand your interests into new areas at college, the Leadership Learning Community will help you -
- Form and articulate goals - for college and life beyond college
- Learn to make choices that further your goals
- Explore ways of managing your time, listening to others, and resolving conflict
- Consider exemplary leadership practices for student leaders
In the Leadership Learning Community you will --
- Take a specially-designated section of the humanities seminar Augustine and Culture (ACS) for a full academic year with other students in Leadership. This course focuses on the question "Who Am I" in relation to leadership skills and styles
- Participate in a one-credit workshop style class that meets weekly in the residence hall, called Villanova Experience (VEXP), which will explore:
- An active approach to leadership in which students learn and practice valuable life-lessons
- Students' values and styles of communication, conflict resolution, and working with others in order to help them become more effective
- Students' leadership skills and styles, and engage in group projects to further their own skills
- Opportunities to work in small groups
- Live together in St. Monica Hall on the south campus
- Elect to participate in specially designed lectures and themed meals centered on the texts they read in ACS; enjoy a meal with their classmates at their professor's home; attend cultural events such as plays or films on campus or in nearby theaters; and even take a trip to the Gettysburg battlefield after reading the private papers of Lee and Lincoln.
"Becoming part of the leadership community was the second best decision I've made, right behind my decision to come to Villanova. The Experience helps ease the transition into college. It was here where I met my first friends on campus, and the Experience became my catalyst into the Villanova community. Learning Communities open students' eyes to real-world issues and brings these topics beyond the classroom, and back into the residence hall. In the Villanova Experience you get to live with people who have similar interests and goals as you. When I think of "Villanova," I will forever think of my leadership community, which helped transform me from a high school senior into a college freshmen."
