Villanova EMS is an authorized provider of BLS for Healthcare Providers and HeartSaver courses. Courses are typically offered once per month throughout the academic year and follow a curriculum established by the American Heart Association. Detailed course descriptions follow. For additional information, please email us at cpr@villanovaems.org or call (610) 519-VEMS (8367).

BLS for Healthcare Providers

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation. It is intended for healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, and respiratory therapists who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course. Students must successfully complete a written exam and practical skills test to pass this course. The cost of this course is $50/person and includes instruction, student manual, pocket mask, and certification card (valid for two years).

HeartSaver

The HeartSaver line offers a variety of courses covering CPR and the relief of choking in adults, children, and infants. HeartSaver participants may elect to take any number of additional modules to be trained in first aid, response to environmental emergencies, the proper use of barrier devices (masks), and the operation of an automated external defibrillator (AED). These courses are intended for family members, friends, and those in the general community, those involved in childcare, and those with a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. HeartSaver course offerings and pricing vary - please see the Course Registration page for upcoming courses and pricing.

Family & Friends CPR Anytime

This one-of-a-kind course will not only provide you with the training you need to help a loved one in crisis, but will also enable you to share your knowledge with family members and friends. Its self-directed course format has been research-proven to be equivalent to taking a traditional, instructor-led course to learn basic CPR skills. It is designed for family, friends, and community members not requiring a course completion card or proof of certification. And best of all, this course is easy and fun! Following the course, you will take this kit home to share your knowledge and skills with other loved ones.

Larger Groups

If you have a large group (10 or more students) that would like to be certified in CPR, First Aid, and/or AED, we may be able to do a course just for you! Please contact our Assistant Training Lieutenant at cpr@villanovaems.org or call (610) 519- VEMS (8367) for more information.
