Alcohol & Drug Counseling

The Villanova University certificate program in Alcohol and Drug Counseling started in 1989 and continues to prepare individuals for the demanding and rewarding field of counseling substance abusers. Individuals looking to enter the field of counseling or expand on their experience can earn a certificate in as little as 6 classes! All classes are approved by the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) and can be applied towards any PCB counseling certificate. The Villanova Substance Abuse Counseling program allows students the opportunity to take all of their required counseling education in one location and through one comprehensive program.

 

Addictions counselors work one-on-one with clients in therapeutic settings, determining the causes and triggers of their addiction. All counselors are expected to interview and assess their clients’ addiction and mental health issues and work with the client to determine the best course of treatment. The primary function of the CRS is to work with recovering individuals on a peer to peer basis to identify resources within the community. A CRS will assist clients by identifying clients' barriers and connecting them with available resources. This community-based service is expected to reduce relapse risks for the client. Program Highlights:

  • Each class is 10 hours and conveniently held at Villanova’s Main Campus on Friday from 6:00pm-9:30pm and Saturday from 9:00am-4:00pm.
  • Each class costs $175.
  • Students are not required to pay for all of their classes at once, but have the option to pay-as-they-go.
  • It is not required that a student take all of the courses within one semester. Individuals can register for classes that are convenient for their schedule.
  • Students can start the program at any point in the semester and do not have wait for the following semester to begin.
  • All classes are approved trainings through the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB).
  • Classes can be applied to a multitude of PCB certificates.
  • Earn 1 CEU for each class to apply towards PCB certification or certificate renewal.
