Welcome to the Villanova University M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, consistently named a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing. Ours is a preeminent Augustinian school, committed to the education of the whole person within a framework of Christian values and ethics.
Our College of Nursing, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, prepares leaders for a changing health care system who are clinically competent, ethically motivated, and conversant with the newest technologies that are available to improve care to patients. Emphasis is placed on educating nurses who will actively participate in professional matters that affect health care and whose practice will be guided by care, concern and respect for others.
The Fitzpatrick College of Nursing is a community of scholars and clinicians who share a belief that excellent professional education depends on an excellent education in the liberal arts and sciences. The resources of our distinguished university enhance the quality of our fine professional program and a wide array of faculty research provides the foundation for advancing nursing practice and education. Our faculty mentor and support freshmen through PhD students in their own student research pursuits as well as involve them in faculty research. Faculty and students conduct research and scholarly activity which makes a real difference for patients, communities, our health care system and profession.
An outstanding faculty of clinical experts and the rich clinical resources of the Greater Philadelphia area contribute to the high quality and fine reputation of the College of Nursing's undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs. At the bachelor's level we educate high school graduates, RNs and second degree students who are earning their BSN degree. We have master's level programs in nursing education and three primary care nurse practitioner specialties--family, pediatric and adult-gerontology. Our PhD program was inaugurated in June 2004 and our post-master's DNP program's 1st cohort started in 2012. Our nurse anesthesia MSN program is transitioning to a DNP with the approval of the Council on Accreditation, with students accepted for the fall 2019 class.
Students in the College of Nursing represent numerous states and countries. Our international focus enriches the learning on campus and provides students with opportunities across 11 countries to study abroad and enhance their global perspective. Villanova's nursing students are well integrated into the life of the University and provide leadership in athletics and countless student activities and organizations. Our professional development program called LEAD (Learn, Engage, Advance, Develop), our chapter of the Student Nurses' Association of Pennsylvania, an affiliate to the National Student Nurses' Association, and the Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, nursing's international honor society, enhance our formal academic programs. Likewise, the Nursing Alumni Association provides support and validation for our educational endeavors. Our broad, deeply engaged and successful alumni network has an unyielding commitment to the Villanova Nursing community.
The M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing is poised and ready for the future. Our curricula prepare professional nurses for practice that focuses on health maintenance, restoration and promotion of individuals, families and communities of diverse backgrounds and cultures. The College of Nursing prepares well-respected beginning nurses, advanced practice nurses, nursing leaders in clinical practice and nurse educators.
One of the College of Nursing's most prominent characteristics is its friendly and supportive environment and the Villanova spirit that pervades all aspects of our academic life.
Driscoll Hall is home to the College and provides space and resources for nursing education, including offices of nursing faculty, classrooms, administrative offices of the College, and the Simulation and Learning Resource Center and is located on the University's beautiful campus located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia.
