Matthew Carr, O.S.A. established the nations' first Augustinian Mission, on April 14, 1796 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The mosaic here hangs in St. Mary's Hall on the campus of Villanova University.
The theme is taken from the cover of a book by Father Arthur Ennis, O.S.A. on the history of the Irish Augustinians in Philadelphia. It depicts the Augustinian Pastor of Old Saint Augustine's Church meeting with George Washingtion and several prominent Philadelphians.
