Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week originated at Villanova in 1975 and has since expanded nationwide. Villanova is proud to sponsor the oldest HHAW week in the country.
In 1975, Villanova students recognized the power of education and held the first HHAW. This week of coordinated activities has since become the most widely organized hunger and homelessness event on campuses nationwide. More than 500 campuses and communities participate during this week each year by organizing educational programs, fasts and sleep outs, community service events, letter-writing campaigns, and congressional call-in days.
In 2002, the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness presented the Villanova with the National Build a Movement Award for its groundbreaking work.
