Villanova Selects Follett Higher Education Group to Manage University Shop Operations

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University has chosen Follett Higher Education Group to manage its campus bookstore, the Villanova University Shop, effective July 10, 2013. With a central focus on access and affordability, Follett is recognized for its ability to bring innovative programs and solutions to college and university campuses. The selection of Follett will allow Villanova’s University Shop the ability to offer a variety of affordable choices for textbook and classroom material needs, including in-store and online rental programs; an extensive selection of used texts; digital textbooks through its cloud-based CafeScribe digital platform; as well as quality University gifts and apparel.

A selection committee made up of University administrators, faculty and students chose Follett—after a thorough evaluation—as the company with the experience, technology, and resources to best serve the needs of the Villanova community.

“We have partnered with Follett to ensure that our students and faculty have access to the widest possible selection of course material options both now and in the future where the teaching and learning environment will continue to evolve quickly,”  said Ken Valosky, Villanova’s Vice President for Finance and Administration.  “Follett will bring extensive experience and expertise to managing our campus store in a way that embraces the Villanova culture.”

With the new partnership, Follett will bring the largest inventory of course materials and a network of more than 7,000 publishers and providers to offer students the greatest selection of affordable course materials options.  The company operates the nation’s largest on-line textbook portal, efollett.com, offering a full selection of new, used rental and digital textbooks and course materials.  By leveraging online ordering with in-store service, Follett will provide exceptional convenience to the University’s students and faculty.

“The University’s selection committee concluded that Follett was best positioned to address the accelerating changes related to providing textbooks and course materials,” said Rick Sieber, Villanova’s Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Services. “Our students—the University Shop’s primary consumers—want choice and Follett can provide it. Follett also demonstrated an appreciation for the strong sense of community that exists at Villanova and a desire to be a contributing part of it.”

The University Shop in Kennedy Hall will undergo a three-week renovation in July to improve layout and aesthetics. These renovations are one part of a significant financial commitment to the University by Follett, which also includes $25,000 annually to be used for textbook scholarships for students in need.

“We’re excited to join the Villanova University community and to continue our support of Pennsylvania’s premier higher education institutions,” said Thomas Christopher, president, Follett Higher Education Group. “At Follett, we’re committed to driving student success and we look forward to working with Villanova to identify solutions that make course materials affordable and accessible for students.”
