Spring Break Service Trips Include Post-Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Hundreds of Villanova University students are spending their spring break serving communities domestically and globally – as part of Habitat for Humanity and Mission service experiences. One group of Villanovans is assisting Habitat for Humanity in its continued post-Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts in Atlantic County, N.J.

“Efforts to recover and rebuild from Hurricane Sandy will last for years,” said Tim O'Connell, Associate Director of Campus Ministry and the coordinator for Habitat for Humanity at Villanova University. “Villanova will continue to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Atlantic County and send students, staff and resources to assist them in their mission.”

For the first part of the week, students are going door to door promoting a March 6 information fair for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Villanova students will also be assisting at the fair doing intake to assess people’s need.  Other responsibilities during the week include placing relief supplies into long term storage.

The University’s Habitat for Humanity experiences work with Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization whose mission is to build homes for people in need of adequate housing. Mission experiences work with site affiliates that meet the needs of the community they serve. The work may include tutoring, visiting the elderly, teaching English, working at AIDS hospices, repairing homes and interacting with the community.
