Villanova University School of Law Names James C. Garvey, Ed.D., Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations

Villanova, Pa. – Villanova University School of Law has announced the appointment of James C. Garvey, Ed.D., as Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.

As a member of the Law School senior management team, Dr. Garvey leads the advancement efforts for the Villanova School of Law. He is responsible for establishing an integrated, overall advancement strategy for the School that optimizes fundraising efforts in order to ensure the achievement of the Law School’s strategic priorities, and continues to build and foster relationships with Villanova Law’s nearly 10,000 alumni. In collaboration with Law School and University leadership, Dr. Garvey is charged with developing advancement policies, strategies and approaches that align with the University’s new Strategic Plan and Advancement initiatives.

Dr. Garvey comes to the Villanova Law School with nearly 20 years of experience and success in the advancement field, notably the direction of several campaigns exceeding $100 million. He most recently served as vice president for strategic priorities and advancement for New England College, where he led the institution’s strategic planning process. Dr. Garvey developed and began implementation of a five-year plan to ensure future viability and sustainable growth consistent with the College's mission.

Previously, as vice president for development and alumni relations at Philadelphia University from 2008 to 2010, Dr. Garvey oversaw advancement efforts for the university’s six schools as well as the athletics department and the library. During his tenure, he led a comprehensive and aggressive development and alumni relations program that raised over $9 million annually in support of the University's strategic plan. In addition, Dr. Garvey has held positions as associate dean for development and alumni relations at University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine, and as director of development for the William Penn Charter School.

A graduate of Connecticut College, Dr. Garvey received his Doctor of Education from the University of Pennsylvania and his Master of Business Administration from Temple University. He resides in Blue Bell, PA, with his wife, Janine, and three children.
