Featuring Henry Paul Monaghan,
Harlan Fiske Stone Professor of Constitutional Law at Columbia Law School

Friday, Oct. 16, 2015

"The Perfections of Our Imperfect Constitution: Marbury and Administration, the Power of the President and Constitutional Stare Decisis."

Henry Paul Monaghan, the Harlan Fiske Stone Professor of Constitutional Law at Columbia Law School, has helped generations of jurists, scholars and students understand the meaning of the Constitution of the United States by evaluating the document's perfections while insisting upon its imperfections. The Tenth Annual John F. Scarpa Conference on Law, Politics and Culture explores Monaghan's scholarship by focusing on three of his landmark articles: “Marbury and Administrative Law,” 83 Colum. L. Rev. 1 (1983); “The Protective Power of the President,” 93 Colum. L. Rev. 1 (1993); “Stare Decisis and Constitutional Adjudication,” 88 Colum. L. Rev. 723 (1988).

The symposium takes place on Friday, Oct. 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Martin G. McGuinn '67 Ceremonial Courtroom (Room 201) of the Law School. This program is approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board for 5 CLE credits (4 substantive, 1 ethics).
