Villanova: A Community with Career Connections

Megan Isserman

Villanova University School of Law graduates join a tight-knit community of more than 10,000 distinguished alumni. But as Megan A. Isserman ’15 found, this network is accessible to students even before graduation.

Although a native to the Philadelphia region, Isserman wanted to practice law on the west coast and ideally in San Diego. When she reached out to Villanova Law alumni in California, she found tremendous support.

“They were very receptive,” she said. “Almost all of the alumni I reached out to in California set up a time to speak with me over the telephone or meet me in person to discuss my career goals and how they could help.”

Among the many receptive alumni, Isserman spoke with Robert Tyson ’89, founder of Tyson & Mendes, an insurance defense firm with offices in California, Arizona and Colorado. This connection not only led to in an externship during her final semester at Villanova Law but also an associate position after graduation. During her externship, Isserman worked closely with a team of attorneys at all stages of the litigation process. She gained invaluable experience and feedback and is looking forward to rejoining them in the fall.

As a student, Isserman was an Editor of Outside Articles for the Environmental Law Journal, a member of the Student Bar Association, a member of the Walter Lucas Public Interest Fellowship Program, an Innocence Project volunteer and a Bloomberg Law campus representative.
