Dean Gotanda named one of 2015’s Diverse Attorneys of the Year

Dean

The Legal Intelligencer recently named John Y. Gotanda, Arthur J. Kania Dean and Professor of Law, one of the 2015 Diverse Attorneys of the Year, an honor given every two years by the Legal to recognize outstanding minority attorneys across Pennsylvania.

After receiving solicited nominations from legal professionals and reviewing its archives for top players in the industry over the past two years, the Legal Intelligencer selected 23 attorneys whose impressive work and professional achievements stood out among the rest. Dean Gotanda, along with all of the Diverse Attorneys of the Year, will be profiled in the Legal’s Diversity supplement, scheduled to be published on June 2.

Since assuming his role as sixth dean of Villanova University School of Law in 2011, John Gotanda has engaged and united the Villanova Law community. Under his leadership, the Law School has embarked upon a bold new Strategic Plan that directly responds to recent changes in the legal industry, while also building upon its distinctive strengths as an Augustinian Catholic institution. Dean Gotanda recently announced significant changes that radically transform the Law School curriculum and provide students with both the academic, professional and practical skills needed to succeed in in 21st-century legal practice. Most significantly, Villanova is strengthening the business foundation for future lawyers, regardless of their chosen field, through the infusion of business principles into the School’s core curriculum.

Dean Gotanda’s scholarly interests focus on damages in international law and international commercial arbitration.  His work has been published in a myriad of scholarly journals. He has spoken widely on the subject of damages in international law. And he has served as an expert on damages for parties involved in international disputes. He previously served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Associate Dean for Faculty Research, and Director of the JD/MBA Program at Villanova University School of Law.
