On Thursday, October 2, 2014, Cynthia Cooper, author of Extraordinary Circumstances: Journey of a Corporate Whistleblower, spoke about corporate ethics and her experiences at the center of the WorldCom collapse.
Ms. Cooper and her team unraveled the massive fraud at WorldCom, which amounted to $9 billion and led to the imprisonment of five company executives. She was named one of Time Magazine’s “Persons of the Year” in 2002 for her role in uncovering one of the largest corporate frauds in history. Ms. Cooper is a recipient, along with Senator Paul Sarbanes and Representative Michael Oxley, of the Maria and Sidney E. Rolfe Award for contributions to educating the public about economics, business and finance.
This was the first event sponsored by Villanova Law’s new Center for Ethics, Integrity and Compliance, which will address important and emerging ethical and compliance issues in law and business.
