Villanova Law Team Competes in Inaugural Game Day Sports Competition at UCLA

Villanova Law students Stephen McCloskey ‘14, Thomas Grant, Jr. ’14 and Robert Ostapowicz ’14 (JD/MBA) were awarded honorable mention in the inaugural Game Day Sports Competition at UCLA.  Launched by the UCLA Anderson Center for MEMES (Management of Enterprise in Media, Entertainment and Sports) and the Jeffrey S. Moorad Center for the Study of Sports Law at Villanova University School of Law, the competition challenged JD and MBA students to take a multidisciplinary approach to analyzing, presenting and negotiating solutions to real-world sports business issues.

The Villanova Law team placed fourth overall behind Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania and UCLA. Other participating schools included Northwestern University, Berkeley School of Law and the Haas School of Business, and University of Michigan Law School and Stephen M. Ross School of Business, among others. Teams were judged by a panel of experts representing both the business and legal sides of the sports industry.

The event also featured a panel discussion—moderated by Moorad Center Director Andrew Brandt and featuring some of the biggest names in the sports business—focusing on current trends, issues and opportunities impacting the sports industry. The Game Day Sports Competition will be held at Villanova Law in 2015.
