Now That's Entertainment Law

Rozanna Tesler Fried, VLS '03

This summer, millions of moviegoers will walk into their local theaters, purchase tickets, take their seats and enjoy a blockbuster they have been waiting months to see. Few likely consider the years-long, painstaking process a film takes from script to screen. But Villanova University School of Law (VLS) alumni such as Rozanna Tesler Fried ’03 know that when it comes to making a Hollywood feature film, there is often more than meets the eye.

As Senior Counsel in Legal Affairs at Twentieth Century Fox, one of the world’s largest producers and distributors of motion pictures, she oversees all aspects of the film development and production process including acquisition and development of material and rights analysis; negotiating talent deals and managing all legal aspects of the development, production and post-production processes. In June, Fried will join Constantin Film, a German film production and film distribution company, as Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs.

Law students looking to follow in Fried’s footsteps can take advantage of VLS’s rigorous curriculum in corporate and entertainment law. Villanova provides a solid foundation in contract law, labor law, litigation, tax and intellectual property— substantive legal disciplines related to film, television, music, publishing, theater, digital and multimedia entertainment.

Fried received a BBA degree from the George Washington University School of Business and a JD, with high honors, from Villanova University School of Law. As a JD candidate, she was a member of the Villanova Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif. Following law school, Fried spent several years working at the international firms of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and Loeb & Loeb in New York City before moving on to Twentieth Century Fox.
