Admissions Policy

Villanova University School of Law is a close-knit and broadly diverse community. The Law School seeks to admit students who will contribute to the strength of our community and learning environment as Villanova Law students and alumni. The Law School pays special attention to each part of every application, keeping in mind that the learning environment at Villanova Law is directly affected by the range of experiences and viewpoints represented in each member of the student body. The community service, leadership, work experience, academic achievements, and personal perspectives of all applicants are highly valued. Applicants are encouraged to share stories about their successes and experience overcoming challenges and disadvantages of all kinds.

When evaluating each application, the Law School recognizes the importance of quantitative measures such as the LSAT and undergraduate grade point average. The Law School also acknowledges that an applicant's potential to excel in law school and contribute to the legal profession does not rest on quantitative measures alone. VLS looks for dedication, maturity, integrity, discipline, high moral character, and commitment to the common good in all applicants. These traits, informed by the unique experiences of each applicant, help provide insight into how applicants can contribute to the VLS community as students and alumni.

Lawyers in today's global society face complex challenges, regardless of their practice area or chosen field. To address these challenges, the legal profession needs to reflect different perspectives, cultural, and cross-cultural experiences, and knowledge and skills informed by varied life experience. Each year, the Law School seeks to assemble a class of students who can develop core competencies, excel academically, and contribute to, while drawing from, the strengths, perspectives, and interests of students who are diverse in traditional and nontraditional ways. By developing relationships with and connections to people with different experiences and viewpoints, Villanova lawyers will be better prepared to be leaders in the legal profession, capable of addressing tomorrow's complex issues over the course of their careers in politics, government, private practice, legal services, business, academia, and public service.
