Dean John Y. Gotanda

Welcome to Villanova Law School!

Here at Villanova Law School, a stone’s throw away from Philadelphia, we have educated more than 10,000 lawyers.  Look around.  You’ll find Villanova lawyers everywhere.  You’ll find them in positions of leadership and influence throughout the country and around the globe.  Our alumni include the former governor of Pennsylvania, the newly-elected United States Senator from New Hampshire, the current President of the AFL-CIO, the President of Jefferson Health System, and the general counsels of Fortune 500 companies.  Villanova lawyers become federal and state judges, professors, entrepreneurs, and successful lawyers, many of whom are recognized as being among the Best Lawyers in America and who have received numerous awards for their work in the community. When you become a Villanova lawyer, you’ll become part of this vast network of active and supportive alumni.

No matter where your interest lies – including international law, corporate law, intellectual property law, or public interest law – you’ll find innovative programs that will prepare you for your future.  You’ll learn from professors who have made their mark at the local, national, and international levels—professors who care about you. You’ll train in a nationally recognized legal writing program. You may work with a practicing lawyer on a pro bono case. You may decide to participate in one of our joint degree programs, such as our JD/MBA, JD/MPA or JD/LLM programs – all of which you can complete in three years.  You may learn lawyering skills in one of our clinics. You may learn how to conduct a trial from a veteran judge or trial lawyer.  You may participate in a national moot court or trial competition as part of our Moot Court Board or serve on one of our three law reviews.  You may work as an extern for a judge or government agency in Philadelphia, or for the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C.

Villanova is an inclusive, supportive and vibrant community.  You’ll meet students, faculty, and lawyers from many different backgrounds, because here at Villanova we believe that is an important part of the educational process.  And you will learn from and work with them not only in our new state-of-the-art classrooms, but in our hallways, library, and offices.  At Villanova, learning happens in a community

Our location offers many opportunities for your future legal career.  Villanova Law School sits on a 254 acre campus in a beautiful suburban community 12 miles west of Philadelphia, and about two hours from New York City and Washington, D.C.  Our region is home to one of the largest and most diverse legal markets in the country.  When you join us at Villanova, you’ll be in the heart of one of the most exciting metropolitan areas in the country with a wealth of activities and cultural institutions.

I invite you to learn more about the Law School.  Come to visit us so that you can tour our new building, meet our students and faculty, attend a class, and explore the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Our community will welcome you with open arms.  I look forward to seeing you soon.
