Steven D. Spencer

Biography

    Mr. Spencer is a partner at the law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP where he has practiced since 1978 and where he is the Practice Group Leader.  Mr. Spencer primarily practices in the areas of employee benefits and labor and employment law as these laws apply to employee benefits plans, including the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,  Age Discrimination In Employment Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Internal Revenue Code, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the Mental Health Parity Act, and the Mothers and Newborn Protection Act.

    Mr. Spencer is the former Management Co-Chair of the Committee on Employee Benefits for the American Bar Association's Section on Labor and Employment Law and a frequent lecturer on employee benefit matters.

Important:  Curriculum Changes Effective Fall 2014

Tax Research and Writing (LTX-3228)  and Law Governing Tax Practice (LTX-5000)  have been consolidated to create a new course  LTX-5005 Professional Responsibility of Tax Practitioners. This new required course will be offered for the first time in Fall 2014.  LTX-3228 and LTX-5000 will no longer be offered.  For students matriculating prior to Fall 2014: If you have already taken either LTX-3228  or LTX-5000, you are not required to take this new course.  If you have previously taken Law Governing Tax Practice, you simply select another elective course in order to meet your course requirements.
