Dr. James C. Garvey joined Villanova University School of Law in October 2011 as the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations. He brings to the Law School over 20 years of advancement experience in education, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has special expertise in strategic planning and implementation, with a goal to ensure future viability and growth. His extensive experience includes working with Boards of Trustees, alumni and volunteer boards, and managing government relations and strategic communications. Over his career, Dean Garvey has successfully directed a number of comprehensive capital campaigns exceeding $100 million.
Prior to joining the Law School, Dean Garvey was the Vice President for Strategic Priorities and Advancement for New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, where he led the college’s strategic planning process. Dean Garvey was also the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations at Philadelphia University where he managed the advancement efforts for the University’s six schools as well as the athletics department and library. He also has served as Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations for the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine, and as Director of Development for the William Penn Charter School, a Quaker day school for grades K through 12 located in Philadelphia.
