National Law Journal Ranks VLS No. 47 'Go-To' Law School

The National Law Journal (NLJ) has ranked Villanova University School of Law (VLS) as the No. 47 “go-to” law school in its 2014 rankings. This annual report identifies the top 50 law schools with the highest percentage of 2013 juris doctor (JD) graduates hired as first-year associates at the nation’s most prestigious law firms. Read more


VLS Graduates Achieve 93.92% PA Bar Exam Passage Rate

Villanova University School of Law (VLS) alumni continue to excel upon graduation. The Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners recently reported that VLS graduates had a 93.92% first-time passage rate for the July 2014 Pennsylvania Bar Exam – the second-highest in the state and more than 11 percentage points above the state average. Read more

PreLaw Magazine Gives Villanova Law Facilities A+ Grade

Villanova Law was ranked #7 in PreLaw Magazine’s list of the “Best Law School Facilities.” In selecting institutions for inclusion, the magazine assessed aesthetics, square footage per student on campus, library hours and amenities, and accommodations, including dining options, parking and lockers. It also considered student comments from Princeton Review’s law school guidebook in its evaluation. Read more

Thomas M. Gallagher ’89 has been elected Chair of Pepper Hamilton LLP, succeeding former FBI Director Louis Freeh. As head of the firm’s Executive Committee, he will lead more than 500 lawyers in 13 national offices. Read more

Villanova University Presents Mary Ann Glendon with Civitas Dei Medal for Exemplary Contributions to Catholic Intellectual Tradition

Villanova University’s third annual Civitas Dei Medal will be presented to Mary Ann Glendon on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 4:30 PM in the Driscoll Hall Auditorium. The award recognizes Catholics who through their work have made exemplary contributions to the Catholic intellectual tradition and have shown particular commitment to the pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness. Richard Harvey, Jr., a leading expert on offshore tax operations by US multinational corporations, was recently quoted in The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report and National Public Radio about new Treasury Department rules intended to crack down on corporate inversions, in which US companies reincorporate abroad to lower their taxes. Cathleen Kelly Rebar '98 is a founding member, shareholder and managing partner of Stewart Bernstiel Rebar & Smith in Blue Bell, PA. In that role she focuses her attention on defending professional liability actions in PA, NJ and NY. Cathleen previously served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Delaware County District Attorney's Office in Pennsylvania and later joined the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General as a Deputy Attorney General for the Eastern Region of Pennsylvania, where she prosecuted neglect in the long-term care sectors and healthcare fraud. Cathleen is also an elected Magisterial District Judge in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where she currently serves portions of the western population of Montgomery County.

Alfred (Fred) J. Monte, Jr. '86, serves as co-chair of Fox Rothschild LLP's Life Science Practice Group. He focuses on all aspects of complex commercial litigation nationwide, with a particular emphasis on federal regulatory matters related to the medical device industry, medical practices and other transactional matters. He is actively sought out by medical device, pharmaceutical and other businesses regulated by FDA to design and manage risk before and after litigation has initiated. Before Fox Rothschild, Fred was the founding member of the firm Monte & McGraw, P.C. in Skippack, Pennsylvania.

Matthew Kogan '99 is Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Bryn Mawr Capital Management where he is responsible for finance, operations, investor relations and accounting. Prior to joining BMCM, Matt spent 6 years at The Vanguard Group as both Chief of Staff for Financial Advisory Services and Associate Legal Counsel. He began his career as Associate Counsel at Pepper Hamilton LLP. Matt considers his path to be an example of how legal education and experience can develop into an alternative career.
