National Law Journal Ranks Villanova No. 38 ‘Go-To’ Law School

The National Law Journal has ranked Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law as the No. 38 “go-to” law school in its 2016 rankings. This annual report identifies the top 50 law schools with the highest percentage of 2015 juris doctor (JD) graduates hired as first-year associates at the nation’s 100 largest law firms. Read more

Connecting with Classmates from Different Cultures

Mark Alexander, Arthur J. Kania Dean of the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, authored an op-ed for The National Law Journal as part of its Sept. 26 special report, “Law Schools: Tackling Timely Issues of Race and Class.” In his essay, entitled “First Year Will Shape You For Decades to Come,” Dean Alexander urges law students to learn from each other, seeking out individuals with differing backgrounds and beliefs from their own. In the media: Professor Michael Risch Comments on Samsung v. Apple U.S. Supreme Court Case

Villanova Law Professor Michael Risch recently provided commentary to several media outlets on Samsung v. Apple, which was argued before the U.S. Supreme Court on Oct. 11. It is the first case involving design patents to be heard by the Supreme Court in more than 120 years. Read more

 

Scholar-Practitioner Leads the Way

At Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, students have the opportunity to explore the complexities of criminal sentencing from Professor Steven Chanenson, one of the nation’s foremost experts on the matter. For his outstanding work in the field of sentencing, Professor Chanenson recently was awarded the prestigious Richard P. Kern Memorial Award by the National Association of Sentencing Commissions (NASC). Read more

Bhaveen R. Jani '09 is an associate in the Personal Injury department at Pellettieri Rabstein & Altman in Princeton, New Jersey. He concentrates his practice in the areas of motor vehicle personal injury, construction accidents, product defect cases and premises liability claims. Prior to joining the firm, he was an Associate at Blank Rome LLP in the Consumer Finance Litigation group. Jani is also a very active member of the bar and currently serves as the President-Elect of the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey (SABA-NJ) and will serve as the association's President next year. SABA-NJ is a specialty bar organization whose membership includes approximately 150 South Asian New Jersey attorneys, judges and law students throughout New Jersey.

Frannie Reilly ’04 has extensive experience counseling clients on corporate policies, best practices and corporate governance and started her own firm in June 2014, focusing her practice on individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations. Reilly also founded and runs a nonprofit education foundation—the Foundation for Wallingford-Swarthmore Schools—which works to ensure that teachers and students continue to promote innovation, creativity and excellence, especially in difficult economic times.

Senior Assistant Regional Counsel
United States Environmental Protection Agency

Jeffrey S. Nast ’99 serves as Senior Assistant Regional Counsel for the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Working in the Hazardous Waste and Chemical Law Branch in Philadelphia, his primary duties include national historic preservation and enforcing chemical and hazardous waste statutes. Nast previously served in the Gulf war as an Armor Crewman with the First Cavalry Division. He is currently a member of the Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Illnesses, appointed by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald in December 2015 for a three year term.
