National Law Journal Ranks VLS No. 47 'Go-To' Law School

The National Law Journal (NLJ) has ranked Villanova University School of Law (VLS) as the No. 47 “go-to” law school in its 2014 rankings. This annual report identifies the top 50 law schools with the highest percentage of 2013 juris doctor (JD) graduates hired as first-year associates at the nation’s most prestigious law firms. Read more


Special Symposium on McCullen v. Coakley

The Law School will host a special symposium on Friday, October 17 at 1:30pm in Room 101 on the US Supreme Court’s decision last term in McCullen v. Coakley, unanimously striking down on First Amendment grounds a Massachusetts abortion clinic buffer zone statute. The lead plaintiff in the case, Eleanor McCullen, will participate and will be in attendance along with her husband, Joseph T. McCullen, Jr., a Villanova alumnus and benefactor, as well as the attorney who represented Mrs. McCullen before the Supreme Court. Read more

Mary Kate Wagner ’15 Participates in Philadelphia-Lyon Bar Exchange Program

Mary Kate Wagner ’15 participated in the prestigious Philadelphia-Lyon Bar Exchange Program, in which young lawyers and law students are placed with host firms in Philadelphia, and their Philadelphia counterparts are placed with host firms in Lyon. Read more


Dean Gotanda Accepts ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for VLS

On August 25, Dean John Gotanda accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as part of a viral video campaign aimed at raising awareness about and donations to fund research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Villanova Law was challenged to participate by Temple University School of Law. Read more

Honorable Kathleen A. Frederick '83

Chief Administrative Law Judge
for the State of Alaska

The Honorable Kathleen A. Frederick '83 practiced business, real estate, and employment law in southeastern Pennsylvania for 18 years before moving to Alaska in 2002. In 2011, she began working in the public sector as one of two statewide attorneys litigating elder fraud cases. Judge Frederick was appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Law Judge for the State of Alaska by Governor Parnell in 2014; the Office of Administrative hearings where she works hears cases in 66 different subject areas and has eleven judges based in Juneau and in Anchorage.

Martin L. Wilson '02 is Chief Compliance Officer and Vice President of Corporate and Legal Affairs at Par Pharmaceutical, Inc. In this capacity, Martin is responsible for ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations and requirements of federal health care programs, advising on FDA/regulatory issues, drafting and evaluating all manner of corporate agreements, coordinating SEC filings and managing litigation for both the branded and generic divisions. Prior to joining Par Pharmaceutical in 2004, Martin was a licensing attorney at Schering-Plough. In 2013, Martin was nominated for the 2013 NJBiz Corporate Compliance Professional of the Year and named one of the 2013 New Leaders of the Bar by New Jersey Law Journal.

Jane North '91 spent 23 years as a trial attorney in Philadelphia, trying products liability, construction and premises cases. She was the first female partner at Deasey, Mahoney, Valentini & North, becoming a shareholder in 2000, managing partner in 2004 and a named partner in 2007. Jane recently accepted a new appointment with Philadelphia Insurance Companies, a leading property and casualty and professional liability insurance company for niche markets, as their Sr. Vice-President of Claims, overseeing claims nationwide and reporting to the Chief Claims Officer.
