National Law Journal Ranks Villanova No. 38 ‘Go-To’ Law School

The National Law Journal has ranked Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law as the No. 38 “go-to” law school in its 2016 rankings. This annual report identifies the top 50 law schools with the highest percentage of 2015 juris doctor (JD) graduates hired as first-year associates at the nation’s 100 largest law firms. Read more

 

PIFP Announces Nine 2016 Summer Fellows

Every year the Walter Lucas Public Interest Fellowship Program (PIFP), a student-run organization, provides summer fellowships to Villanova Law students who want to aid the larger community and deliver volunteer legal services to those in need. Thanks to PIFP’s fundraising efforts this year, nine students will work this summer for organizations including The Homeless Advocacy Project, Veterans Law Clinic at Widener University Delaware Law School, the Pennsylvania Innocence Project and more. George K. H. SchellChief Marketing Counsel for The Coca-Cola Company, will address the Class of 2016 as the School’s commencement speaker and will also receive the Villanova Law Medallion Award in recognition of his achievements.  Schell’s selection serves as fitting bookend for the Class of 2016 as he first addressed the class as part of its orientation three years ago. Villanova Law Student Wins NYIPLA Honorable William C. Conner Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition

The curriculum at Villanova University School of Law includes six semesters of writing instruction—providing students with a solid foundation in legal writing, analysis and research that prepares them to meet the intense demands of the legal industry. A testament to Villanova’s strong legal writing curriculum and its outstanding students, Christie Larochelle ’16 earned first place in the New York Intellectual Property Law Association’s 2016 Honorable William C. Villanova University Graduate Tax Program’s inaugural Tax Policy Symposium—Fundamental Tax Reform and Tax Policy Issues in Election Year 2016—will bring together a cross section of business leaders—from tax and accounting to legal and government to renowned academics—to discuss the economic and societal issues surrounding the need for fundamental Tax Reform. Blake Zucker ’17 Awarded 2016 Peggy Browning Fund Fellowship

The Peggy Browning Fund awarded Blake Zucker ’17 a 10-week summer fellowship for 2016. A tribute to Zucker’s qualifications, Peggy Browning Fellowships are given to law students who not only excel in the classroom, but who also demonstrate a commitment to workers’ rights through their educational, work, volunteer and personal experiences. This year, more than 325 applicants competed for the honor. Read more

Duke Law

Charles J. Dunlap Jr. ’75 is a Professor of the Practice of Law and the Executive Director of the Center on Law, Ethics and National Security at Duke Law. His teaching and scholarly writing focus on national security, international law, civil-military relations, cyberwar, airpower, counter-insurgency, military justice and ethical issues related to the practice of national security law. Prior to teaching, Dunlap spent more than 34 years in the Air Force as a military lawyer, during which his practice included everything from leading legal offices both in the U.S. and abroad, to serving as military judge, to participating in several operations in the Middle East and Africa.

James R. Wells ’83 is General Counsel at ARI, the world's largest privately held fleet management company. Wells is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the company and for providing guidance and strategic counsel to the senior management team on general business matters. Previously, Wells was Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Environmental Tectonics Corporation (ETC). Wells also worked at ARAMARK for more than 20 years, where he rose to serve as Vice President and Associate General Counsel.

Julie S. Lu ’98 is an Attorney Advisor on the Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Management Staff in the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), U.S. Department of Justice. In this role, she advises EOUSA and the U.S. Attorney’s Offices nation-wide on EEO related issues, provides oversight to non-attorney staff, conducts training and supports efforts to increase workforce diversity. Prior to joining EOUSA, Ms. Lu was an Attorney in the Claims and Employment Law Branch, General Law Division, Office of the General Counsel, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  From 1999 to 2004, she was a litigator in the trial department at Duane Morris LLP.
