Following a raid in 2011 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court took an unprecedented step and appointed Court of Common Pleas Judge Gary S. Glazer the Administrative Judge of Philadelphia's Traffic Court, aiming to reform the Traffic Court permanently and restore public confidence in the adjudication of traffic citations. Read more
Joshua Jacobs ’17 and Eugene Tsvilik ’17 are the winners of the 56th annual Theodore L. Reimel Moot Court Competition. Named in honor of the late Theodore L. Reimel, Judge for the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas from 1953 to 1973, the competition begins each September with approximately 100 teams of second and third year students, and culminates with the final argument between the competition's two best teams. The American Law Institute announces Michelle Madden Dempsey, Associate Dean of Faculty Research and Development, as one of 72 recently elected members. These highly regarded judges, lawyers and law professors were confidentially nominated by their peers, vetted by the Membership Committee and elected by the ALI Council. Read more
Ed Liva has been named Director of Villanova’s nationally recognized Graduate Tax Program. A longtime adjunct professor, he joins the program full-time following his retirement from KPMG, where he most recently served as national Real Estate Industry Tax leader. In his new role, Liva oversees the cross-disciplinary program—designed for lawyers, accountants and business professionals—which is developed and managed by the Law School in conjunction with the Villanova School of Business. James R. Wells ’83 is General Counsel at ARI, the world's largest privately held fleet management company. Wells is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the company and for providing guidance and strategic counsel to the senior management team on general business matters. Previously, Wells was Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Environmental Tectonics Corporation (ETC). Wells also worked at ARAMARK for more than 20 years, where he rose to serve as Vice President and Associate General Counsel.
Executive Office for United States Attorneys
Julie S. Lu ’98 is an Attorney Advisor on the Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Management Staff in the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), U.S. Department of Justice. In this role, she advises EOUSA and the U.S. Attorney’s Offices nation-wide on EEO related issues, provides oversight to non-attorney staff, conducts training and supports efforts to increase workforce diversity. Prior to joining EOUSA, Ms. Lu was an Attorney in the Claims and Employment Law Branch, General Law Division, Office of the General Counsel, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. From 1999 to 2004, she was a litigator in the trial department at Duane Morris LLP.
Minnesota Vikings Football, LLC
Joshua Goldenberg ’13 serves as Associate Counsel for Minnesota Vikings Football, LLC. In this role, his focused attention has been on preparing, reviewing and negotiating legal documents related to the new Minnesota Vikings Stadium in Minneapolis, set to open in July 2016. His responsibilities also include handling contracts, labor and employment matters, intellectual property protection, relationships with key partners, litigation management and compliance with NFL rules and regulations.
