Professor J. Richard Harvey, Jr., a leading expert on offshore tax operations by US multinational corporations, was recently quoted in The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report and National Public Radio about new Treasury Department rules intended to crack down on corporate inversions, in which US companies reincorporate abroad to lower their taxes. Symposium on McCullen v. Coakley

The Law School will host a special symposium on Friday, October 17 at 1:30pm in Room 101 on the US Supreme Court’s decision last term in McCullen v. Coakley, unanimously striking down on First Amendment grounds a Massachusetts abortion clinic buffer zone statute. The lead plaintiff in the case, Eleanor McCullen, will participate and will be in attendance along with her husband, Joseph T. McCullen, Jr., a Villanova alumnus and benefactor, as well as the attorney who represented Mrs. McCullen before the Supreme Court. Read more

Mary Kate Wagner ’15 participated in the prestigious Philadelphia-Lyon Bar Exchange Program, in which young lawyers and law students are placed with host firms in Philadelphia, and their Philadelphia counterparts are placed with host firms in Lyon. Read more


Dean Gotanda Accepts ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for VLS

On August 25, Dean John Gotanda accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as part of a viral video campaign aimed at raising awareness about and donations to fund research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Villanova Law was challenged to participate by Temple University School of Law. Read more

Matthew Kogan '99 is Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Bryn Mawr Capital Management where he is responsible for finance, operations, investor relations and accounting. Prior to joining BMCM, Matt spent 6 years at The Vanguard Group as both Chief of Staff for Financial Advisory Services and Associate Legal Counsel. He began his career as Associate Counsel at Pepper Hamilton LLP. Matt considers his path to be an example of how legal education and experience can develop into an alternative career.

Lisa Passante ’83 is Vice President & Associate General Counsel for Thomson Reuters in its Philadelphia office where she is the senior U.S. based legal advisor to the Intellectual Property & Science business unit.  Prior to joining Thomson Reuters in 2013, Lisa spent 19 years at DuPont in Wilmington, DE, where she served in a variety of capacities including General Counsel for DuPont Performance Coatings, during its transition from DuPont to a privately held company, and where she was the founder of the acclaimed DuPont Women Lawyers’ Network.  Lisa is President of the National Association of Women Lawyers for 2014-2015.  NAWL, founded in 1899, is an ABA affiliate and the leading national bar association for women.

for the State of Alaska

The Honorable Kathleen A. Frederick '83 practiced business, real estate, and employment law in southeastern Pennsylvania for 18 years before moving to Alaska in 2002. In 2011, she began working in the public sector as one of two statewide attorneys litigating elder fraud cases. Judge Frederick was appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Law Judge for the State of Alaska by Governor Parnell in 2014; the Office of Administrative hearings where she works hears cases in 66 different subject areas and has eleven judges based in Juneau and in Anchorage.
