Dr. Joye has research and teaching interests in fluid mechanics, rheology, heat transfer, chemical process operations, and polymer science and engineering. He has published articles in modeling complex fluids, including viscoelasticity, heat exchanger design and operation, and polymer applications including the benches around campus made from recycled plastics.
He has long had an interest in society and technology issues and has often taught “Humanistic Context of Engineering” with Dr. John Fielder of the Philosophy department, now retired. Additionally, he has participated in other Honors class offerings including “Medical Technology” and a series on music appreciation including Beethoven, Mozart, Bruckner, Bach, and Handel, and perhaps in the future, Gilbert and Sullivan.
