ECE Day Calls on Communication Technology

On the 24th Annual Electrical and Computer Engineering Day, faculty, students, alumni, and guests dialed into the expertise of engineering professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, who shared insights into the latest communications advancements in telephony, military surveillance, intelligence gathering, and the wireless industry.

Speakers and topics included:

• Christ Wendt, Principle Architect, IP Communications and Services for Comcast’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer, who discussed the history, current state, and future possibilities of IP communications and telephony.
• Dr. Kingsley Fregene, Lead Research Scientist at Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories, who discussed the inspiration for Lockheed’s single wing unmanned autonomous vehicle and the electronics integration and signal processing that was necessary to achieve its development.
• Randy Rogers, a lifetime CIA employee who works for the National Reconnaissance Office, who shared some history of the use of military satellites.
• Anthony Melone EE ’82, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Verizon Wireless, who outlined the upcoming 4G wireless landscape and what to expect from wireless devices in the future.

Following a networking dinner, ECE senior students hosted a poster presentation to display the results of their latest research and discussed their findings with speakers and invited guests.
