Civil and Environmental Engineering 

Continuing Non-tenure Track Assistant Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering


Villanova University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks a diverse pool of candidates for a full-time non-tenure track assistant professor position in civil engineering starting in the fall 2018 semester. The Department is recognized as a national leader in providing a distinctive broad-based civil engineering education grounded in Augustinian Catholic values, encouraging our students to have a strong commitment to service, and performing high-quality scholarly research.  

The Department has sixteen full-time faculty members (including three current full-time non-tenure track faculty), approximately 225 undergraduate students, and 110 graduate students. Degree programs offered through the Department include B.S. (Civil Engineering), M.S. (Civil Engineering and Water Resources/Environmental), and Ph.D. degrees. We are acknowledged as a premier program known for our outstanding pedagogy and curricula, international opportunities, and personal attention to students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  

The Department is looking for a versatile faculty member that can contribute to and enhance our undergraduate program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate courses, including the Mechanics sequence (i.e., Statics, Strength of Materials, and Fluid Mechanics), CEE Fundamentals, Engineering Economics, Graphical Communications, Capstone Design and Professional Practice, and introductory freshman courses. A typical teaching load is 12 contact hours (four course sections) per semester with three preparations. The Department has built excellent infrastructure to support teaching, including soils, structural, environmental, transportation, fluids, and water resources laboratories. In addition, the campus is home to multiple instrumented stormwater control measures that form an outdoor laboratory. Additional laboratory facilities maintained by other departments within the College of Engineering are also available for multi- and cross-disciplinary collaborative work. 

Requirements include a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (must be completed at the time of hire), relevant engineering work experience, professional registration or work towards professional registration, a dedication to teaching excellence, and a commitment to impactful engineering service. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to advise students and perform service within the academic community.

Electrical and Computer Engineering 

Assistant or Associate Professor

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Villanova University is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to teach and conduct research in Computer Engineering, starting in the fall of 2018. Areas of interest include cybersecurity engineering and cyber-physical systems, but exceptional candidates from other areas of Computer Engineering will also be considered. A Ph.D. in Computer Engineering or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment.

The Department has nineteen (19) full-time faculty members and approximately 160 undergraduate and 140 graduate students. The ECE faculty are recognized for exceptional research as evidenced by two IEEE Fellows, a winner of the prestigious Humboldt prize, a Fulbright Distinguished Chair, two IEEE Distinguished Lecturers and a multi million dollar research program with a publication record to match. The Department is in the process of creating a state of the art Cyber-Physical Systems Security Lab. This facility will provide unique hands-on opportunities for teaching and research in this emerging field. The geographical area is exceptionally rich in diverse industries including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, defense and aerospace, telecommunications and finance.

Assistant Professor or Instructor (Continuing Non-Tenure Track)

The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily undergraduate EE courses in lab-based analog and digital electronics, and other fundamental topics in electrical engineering at freshman and sophomore levels. The individual is also expected to work closely with students on multidisciplinary Capstone projects during their senior year. Excellent leadership, organizational, management and communication skills are expected. A successful candidate will also be expected to engage in undergraduate academic advisement, and encouraged to contribute to career advisement and curriculum development. Research is not a requirement for this position.

Preferred candidates will have a Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with excellent academic credentials, an outstanding ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and a knowledge of emerging technologies, and demonstrated expertise with tools and techniques.

Mechanical Engineering 

Assistant Professor

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Villanova University has an opening for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of fundamental computational fluid dynamics (CFD) theory, with a focus on incorporating new physics-based models. Areas of interest for CFD applications include electronics thermal management, biotransport, interfacial phenomena, and phase change processes. Mechanical Engineering 

Assistant Professor or Instructor (Continuing Non-Tenure Track)

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Villanova University has an opening for a non tenure-track faculty position in the area of applied design. Areas of design experience may include robotics, mechatronics, additive manufacturing or other types of industrial design. The primary responsibilities include serving as the primary instructor for our capstone design sequence, developing an exciting and relevant design-based class to accompany the capstone experience, coordinating with our multi-disciplinary design laboratory and college staff on supporting sponsored projects and enhancing the funding level of our capstone sequence, coordinating and expanding our makerspace facility, and working with other faculty to integrate design content throughout our curriculum. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) and practical design experience in industry or a national lab are required. Previous teaching experience is preferred. The position start date is flexible with a latest possible date of Aug 22, 2018.
