Graduating Whole-Brain Engineers

Welcome to Villanova University College of Engineering where our educational approach, based on the teachings of St. Augustine, is to engage both mind and heart with academic excellence; strong community; personal attention; service to others; and a foundation for lifelong success. The College of Engineering’s success in living up to these ideals has made us one of the most respected engineering programs in the country, and our commitment to those values is evident in our excellent faculty, innovative academic programs, cutting edge research, and extensive service opportunities for students to have an impact on the world.

Academic Excellence

At Villanova, excellence comes in the form of faculty members who embody the scholar-teacher model, placing student first, yet finding time to conduct research that distinguishes them nationally and internationally.  And, excellence is evident in our transformative approach to education, which includes a nationally recognized first year curriculum, entrepreneurially-minded engineering course modules, and an evolving approach to the classroom experience that improves student learning.

Perhaps the greatest testament to our academic excellence is the 99% of our graduates who agree that “Villanova University provides a rigorous academic experience inside the classroom,” and the 85% who also found an intellectually stimulating environment outside the classroom.*

Strong Community

Community is synonymous with Villanova University. In the College of Engineering, it’s illustrated in the strong connection between students and faculty, on student teams and project work, and through activities such as PEER tutoring. Our community includes our alumni who serve on our advisory boards and in the classroom, as mentors and competition judges, and as expert sources, research partners, industry sponsors and employers.

Personal Connection

Few universities offer undergraduates the opportunity to conduct research with faculty who know their names, faculty who notice when their classroom performance isn’t what it should be, and faculty who encourage students to meet with them outside of class. Eighty-seven percent of Villanova engineering students are satisfied with their amount of contact with faculty, and 93% agree that “faculty believe in my potential to succeed academically.”*

Service to Others

In the belief that service learning is a critical aspect of the academic and personal growth of our students, Villanova’s College of Engineering is one of the most active in the country when it comes to STEM outreach and international service projects. With eight STEM programs for youth in underserved local and regional communities, and engineering service projects in countries from Nicaragua and Panama to India and Cambodia, students have ample opportunity to learn by serving others.

A Foundation for Lifelong Success

Students in the College of Engineering graduate with much more than technical know-how. At Villanova, we educate whole-brain engineers—developing critical thinkers, ethical leaders and passionate lifelong learners. We prepare our graduates for successful careers and rewarding lives that reach beyond job titles and material wealth.

If you’re looking for this type of holistic engineering education, look to Villanova University. We look forward to welcoming you to the community.
