Welcome to the website of the College of Engineering at Villanova University. The College of Engineering is more than a 100 years old, with a long tradition and history of providing a solid engineering education rooted in the Augustinian values summarized by our motto: “Veritas, Unitas, Caritas” – roughly translated into the values of “truth, community, and caring.” The Augustinian values of Villanova are directly aligned with our vision for the very unique role that Villanova engineers play in industry and society. Through their research our faculty and students seek new truths about the world we live in and how the development of new products, processes, materials, and systems will lead to a better world. The strong focus that our faculty have on student development helps create a strong sense of community among all members of the college. And, in line with our heritage of seeing engineering in a broader context, our students and faculty are involved in service activities from the local Philadelphia area to as far away as Honduras and Nicaragua.
Not many people realize how much engineers impact their everyday life, and most people would have a difficult time describing what engineers do. But, engineers play a very unique role in our society. Everything from the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the medicines we take, the music we listen to, the homes, buildings, roads and communications systems which we interact with everyday, all exist because some form of engineering was needed to make them happen. Engineers are also responsible for much of the technology that has been so important to this country’s economic growth and in it’s ability to lead the world in innovation. More importantly, engineers will play a very critical role in tackling the problems of energy, the environment, security, and health that we all face in the future.
At Villanova, engineers learn that engineering is more than just working with technology, its working with people. Engineering is a very people oriented profession. The complexity of today’s problems requires a team of people to solve, and engineers must be able to understand, communicate, and work with people from many different cultures, educational backgrounds, and experiences.
The College of Engineering at Villanova sees the education of engineers in this larger context; where having an engineering background provides a basis for many different career options. We emphasize a culture of collaboration and community, a devotion to developing future scholars and leaders, and the development of a complete engineer.
I invite you to explore this website, to visit our facilities and faculty, and to feel free to contact us to learn more about the Villanova engineering experience.
